14-Mar-2022 =========================== WPS Installation on Windows =========================== WPS for Windows version 4.1.10-GA-release (4.1.10.0.18452-GA-release) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================= 1. Prerequisites 2. Installation 3. Upgrading ======================================================================= 1. Prerequisites ================ WPS software runs on Windows Server 2003 and later and on Windows XP and later. There are no other prerequisites. You will need to have administrative access to install the WPS software. 2. Installation =============== Before starting to install WPS, ensure that your copy of Windows has the latest updates and service packs applied. Windows workstation and server installations both use the same WPS software - usage is controlled by means of a license key applied using the setinit procedure. The WPS installation file for Windows can be downloaded from the World Programming website. You will require a username and password to access the download section of the site. Once the installation (.msi) file is downloaded, you simply double-click the file, read and accept the EULA and follow the on-screen instructions. Once the WPS software is installed, you will need to apply the license key. The license key will have been emailed to you when you purchased the WPS software. The easiest way to apply the license key is by running the WPS Workbench and following the instructions. You will need to be running the workbench as a user with administrative access to the system. IMPORTANT: Installing WPS into a directory where any part of the absolute pathname contains non-ASCII characters may result in the WPS executable failing to start. In this event, you will need to uninstall WPS and re-install into a location where the absolute pathname contains only ASCII characters. From version 3.2 of WPS onwards, it is possible to give the WPS server access to any environment variables by configuring them in the normal way through the Windows Control Panel. You may want to set appropriate environment variables specifically for use with WPS, for example to access a database client. However, it is not possible to limit the enviornment variables to the WPS server; all processes running as the same user will have access to variables. 3. Upgrading ============ You will need a version 4 license key to use WPS version 4. WPS will always be able to read data created by prior versions of WPS. Older versions of WPS will not always be able to read data created by newer versions of WPS. Note that the name of the command line executable for WPS has been changed from wpsi.exe to wps.exe. Existing batch scripts and other references to wpsi.exe will need to be changed to wps.exe. (c) 2022 World Programming
